Promoting Communities of Peace
Do you know a family member, friend or neighbor who helps to improve your community? Maybe they have worked to bring different groups of people together, helped to keep your neighborhood safe or provided a service that you feel deserves recognition. Now you can honor them with a nomination for the Community Peacemaker Award.
The Community Peacemaker Award recognizes the ongoing efforts of individuals and organizations who are making exceptional contributions to the quality of life in their communities. The award is designed to honor those who freely offer their talents and energy without seeking or receiving recognition for their service. In particular, this award is given to those who strive to bring their communities together in peace by breaking down the barriers of race, faith or ethnicity that often divide a community.
This award is given at the conclusion of the 40 Days of Peace, an annual program that begins each year on Martin Luther King Day. It brings together community organizations, neighborhoods and law enforcement agencies to promote a greater cooperation and a sustainable reduction in violence in our communities.
Nominees must meet the following criteria:
· Nominees must have made a significant contribution to their local community (school, neighborhood, community) during the previous 24 months that enhanced the overall quality of life of others.
